Insulation
Insulating Existing Homes
Unless your home was specially constructed for energy efficiency, you can usually reduce your energy bills by adding more insulation.
Many older homes have less insulation than homes built today, but adding insulation to a newer home may also pay for itself within a few years. To get the biggest savings, the easiest place to add insulation is usually in the attic. A quick way to see if you need more insulation is to look across your uncovered attic floor. If your insulation is level with or below the attic floor joists, you probably need to add more insulation. The recommended insulation level for most attics is R-38 (or about 12–15 inches, depending on the insulation type).

Insulating New Homes
Not all insulators are created equal. In fact, the installation process for insulation is the most critical aspect that determines insulation performance. Allot of companies can afford to sell insulation for less when they cut corners or install insulation at an improper density that will settle over time to inches less than what you paid for. When building a new home, make sure you are working with a contractor that stays current on all building science and trends and puts a strong emphasis on the installation aspect of insulating.
At Arizona Comfort Systems, we work with all of our new home builders to make sure they understand the importance of properly installing insulation. After all, insulation is the number one factor in determining how much energy your home will use through out its lifetime.
